Heart — Connection

Where in my chest do I allow connection — and where do I quietly close it off?

The heart is not a metaphor. It is a muscle that opens and closes in response to safety.

Many of us learned to keep it half-closed by default, because half-open was once enough to keep us going.

Connection grows where the chest agrees to stay open one breath longer than usual.

Reflection

  • — When did I last feel my chest soften in another person's presence?
  • — Where in my life is my heart half-closed because half-open is what kept me safe?
