Don't Disappoint Us

Whose disappointment am I still working not to cause?

The fear of disappointing is the fear of being seen wanting differently from the people who held our safety.

We learn to read faces, to anticipate, to pre-shrink our wanting.

There is no life worth living that does not, somewhere, disappoint someone.

Reflection

  • — Whose face do I rehearse in my head before I make decisions?
  • — What would I choose if their disappointment was already on the table?
