Purpose

What is mine to do — even when no one is watching, and no one is paying?

Purpose is often confused with productivity. They are not the same.

Productivity is what we do because we are watched. Purpose is what we do because we cannot do otherwise.

It is rarely a thunderclap. It is more often a small, repeated pull toward a kind of work, a kind of conversation, a kind of attention.

Reflection

  • — What do I find myself doing even when no one notices?
  • — If I knew it would not make me money, would I still do it?
