Shoulders — I carry

What weight am I carrying in my shoulders that was never assigned to me?

The shoulders are the body's filing cabinet. They store responsibilities we accepted long before we had any choice in the matter.

Some of the weight is ours. Most of it is inherited — a family's anxiety, a partner's mood, a culture's expectation.

The work begins not with stretching. It begins with naming what is up there.

Reflection

  • — What am I carrying in my shoulders right now that does not belong to me?
  • — If I set it down for one day, who would be uncomfortable?
